We are committed to excellence both on and off the pitch, adhering to high standards of professionalism and sportsmanship. Our partnerships with global brands and local businesses help drive the growth of football in the region, contributing to the sport's popularity in India.
Club History
The inception of Mumbai City FC dates back to 2014 when the Indian Super League was launched. The club was one of the eight founding franchises, bringing top-tier football to the financial capital of India. Initially co-owned by Bollywood star Ranbir Kapoor and business magnate Bimal Parekh, the club saw early struggles but gradually built a competitive squad.
In 2019, City Football Group (CFG), the parent company of Manchester City, acquired a majority stake in Mumbai City FC, marking a new era for the club. This partnership brought global expertise, investment, and a long-term vision to develop football infrastructure in Mumbai. Under CFG's stewardship, the club revamped its youth academy, scouting network, and training facilities.
The 2020-21 season was historic for Mumbai City FC. Under the guidance of coach Sergio Lobera, the team played an attractive, attacking style of football, finishing top of the league stage to win the ISL League Winners Shield. They then went on to defeat ATK Mohun Bagan in the final to clinch the ISL Championship, completing a remarkable double.
Since then, the club has consistently qualified for the playoffs and participated in the AFC Champions League, representing India on the Asian stage. The focus remains on sustainable success, with an emphasis on nurturing young Indian players through the academy system.
Community Engagement
Mumbai City FC is deeply involved in community development programs across Mumbai. The "Cityzens Giving" initiative focuses on using football to address social issues such as education, health, and gender equality. Regular coaching clinics are conducted in schools and local clubs to identify and train budding footballers.
The club also runs the "Mumbai City FC Foundation," which supports underprivileged children by providing them with access to sports facilities, educational resources, and mentorship. Annual events like charity matches and fan festivals strengthen the bond between the club and its supporters.
